Quiet Time - Creative Silent Program

Kreatív csend program banner

The Creative Silence is the Hungarian equivalent of the Quiet Time school program that helps students and teachers reduce stress, improve attention, and create a more harmonious school atmosphere through the daily practice of Transcendental Meditation. The program aims to provide participants with a simple tool that can be easily integrated into everyday life, supporting learning performance, self-confidence, and community cooperation. According to the presented research results, the initiative can have a positive impact on school results, creativity, and the reduction of stress-related difficulties.

The Creative Silence program improves school results,
reduces stress and violence

As a ninth-grade teacher, I consider the introduction of the Creative Silence program in our school, in my class, very important. Many changes occur in the life of a ninth-grade student – a new school, new classmates, new teachers, many school requirements, a new city, or perhaps a dormitory – which many cannot accept or integrate into, which is why many drop out of school and become dropouts. For others, their academic results deteriorate due to numerous influencing factors – family background, conflicts with peers, teachers, etc. At this age, students have little faith in themselves, they easily give up the fight if they experience many failures, their attention is scattered, and they are influenced by their peers.

During the Creative Silence program, ideal conditions are created in the classroom, during which students "put down" the burdens they have been "carrying" and can bring out the best in themselves. They are much better able to pay attention and concentrate in a given lesson, which improves their academic results and makes them more willing to go to school. Their creativity increases, their self-esteem improves. It is team-building, community-forming, and the faith and trust of peers in each other is strengthened, thus the community becomes more cohesive.

Stress: the biggest enemy of learning

In schools in disadvantaged neighborhoods, traumatic stress is a living reality for millions of children who grow up in poverty, violence, fear, and oppressive environments. This stress hinders learning and undermines physical and mental health. The data below comes from the USA, but the situation is similar in Hungary.

  • 25% of teenagers suffer from anxiety
  • 6.5 million children struggle with disabilities that hinder their ability to learn
  • One in four high school students has been offered, given, or sold an illegal drug on school grounds.
  • Every third child is overweight or obese
  • Nearly 3 million children take medication for ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder)
  • Suicide is the third leading cause of death among teenagers

High stress levels also harm teachers and educators, resulting in extremely high burnout rates.

Stress reduction and cognitive development during Creative Silence

The Creative Silence program is a practical, evidence-based approach to reducing stress and dramatically improving school performance, student well-being, and the school environment. The Creative Silence program provides students with two 15-minute TM sessionsper day to help them find balance and improve their learning skills. This school program complements existing educational strategies by improving learning and behavioral foundations. A Transzcendentális Meditáció technika
